Finer Details Needed Here

this.jpg

Certainly I understand that models do not wear undergarments on the runway. However, designers can make crucial mistakes if they lack attention to details. The finer details, if you catch my drift. Case in point, while previewing FW08 fashion, I was taken aback by this. Here is a stunning model showcasing a beautiful ensemble. Check out the detail of the top - gorgeous ruffles at the neck and a cut to show off the shoulders. Soft satin skirt against the dark belt and tights. Love the look! But who can get past the double bullseyes? Darts anyone? I won’t name the designer, but I think you’ll agree that this look is cheapened when presented this way. We all remember Alexandra Kerry’s huge mistake. Seriously, we don’t need to see this.

Stumble it!

Here’s an interesting update: just a few weeks ago this exact photo form the runway appeared in a major fashion mag. And guess what? The model’s nipples were photo shopped out!

  2. Catherine responds:

    Hi Kay,
This was a Fall/Winter 08 preview show - mauve being one of the few “colors” spotted on the runway for next season. So, I guess we will see more dark opaque tights … but, of course, we have a choice in how we want to interpret the season.

  3. kay responds:

I agree with you completely! I am not interested in seeing anyone’s nipples - for me this falls under the too much information category no matter how voluptuous - or not -you happen to be.

If I am at a topless beach that is one thing but at a formal event or dinner party if you choose to wear this dress please keep your private parts to yourself and purchase the appropriate undergarments. I find the model’s lack of undergarments takes away from the elegance of the top.

Plus personally I HATE the dark opaque tights with spring colors.

  4. Charlene responds:

I can’t believe anyone would let that go to print like that.

  5. Catherine responds:

    Well welcome, Michel!!
I am so glad you commented (not quite #300 but close). Please don’t take my “cheapening” comment as degrading the quality of the clothing or the model - as mentioned above, the model is stunning and the look is gorgeous. My point is, I don’t want to see someone’s chest staring back at me (big or small) - because honestly, I wouldn’t be able to admire the outfit. And yes, the model has the typical (Inverted Triangle) body type, which is why she is rockin’ and why she is in the fashion industry. And which is why, in my opinion, she shouldn’t be exposing herself.

  6. Michel responds:

Personally, I don’t mind this look (double bullseyes and all!). I also don’t see the look as being cheapened at all. It is pretty sexy, although only a small chested woman with some confidence and attitude could get away with this (the bigger the chest, the more the sag -right?). So funny that you think exposing the fact that she is small chested would be embarrassing for her. I think her entire body totally rocks! From what I’ve seen on the runway, in print ads and magazine feature spreads, her body seems to be the preferred type (thin with smaller breasts) by most designers (I know there are exceptions like lingerie models who have more curves.). In fact, when I think of a runway model body, tall and straight up and down is what comes to mind. The clothes generally just hang, showcasing the clothes rather than the model’s body. I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this one! As always, love reading your take on fashion!!! Okay, so am I comment #300?!?!

  7. Emmanuel responds:

This makes the garment look so street walker-ish. I think designers that send this stuff down the runway know what the finished look will be.
