Smoldering Eyes
In keeping with the holiday spirit, you not only want to look your best in dress, but in face, too. Here are some simple inspirations to get you experimenting in preparation for your holiday parties.
Bronzed Eyes and Cheeks
I am a bronzer-all-year-round kind of girl. Reason…quite simple, I have rosacea and simply cannot wear a lot of the great blushes out there. I may dab a bit of color (has to be the right color for my skin tone) on the apples of my cheeks from time to time. But bronzer right under the cheek bone is enough to frame my face. [my] favs: the special edition butterfly bronzer by Chantecaille and Chanel’s Toundra bronzer. I also love a bronzed eye. I use a gold/brown on my top lid and an aqua blue (try Cargo in Barcelona and Shu Uemura in ME Blue 600) under my lower lashes for a pop! Better yet, YSL has a bronze palette with the turquoise liner built right in. It stays put all day, too. You can achieve a smoldering eye with a variety of brown family palettes (stay away from matte shadows). The key is to really play it up for the holidays … because you can. And throw some glitz (in Stalkerazzi) on top for the fun of it. However, playing up eyes and lips simultaneously is a serious faux paux. Choose one or the other.
Charcoal Sophistication
I adore the color charcoal on eyes. It’s a gorgeous sophistication that most eye colors can pull of. Ironically enough, when you begin to feel a little vampy applying charcoal eye shadows, you are almost there! It’s difficult for most of us to wear such a dark shade, so it’s natural that we lean toward using a light hand when applying dark shadows. With charcoal, go for it! Really. Laura Mercier came out with the best charcoal color ever in her mineral eye shadow line. Can’t find it now to save my life. However, Becca (Graphite), Bare Escentuals (Smoky V Eye), Cargo (Budapest) and Chantecaille (Mica) are great places to start. On top, layer away and add a sparkling liner (Ooh & Aah) on top. Try going thin underneath toward the inner corner of your eye and span outwards and up to widen your eye.
Infatuated with Navy
I have been drooling over this compact by Cargo for ages. I will most likely break down in a few days and buy it. It’s so beautiful and on the right eye color, looks fabulous! You can definitely create a gorgeous smoky eye with navy colors - again, not matte. Bring in some black eyeliner along the upper inside rim of your eye and if your daring, on the bottom inside rim of your eye. Be sure to enhance your look with the right highlighting shadow under your brow such as a sparkly vanilla (love this one) or a sheer beige shimmer.
To complete the look, you absolutely must have the right mascara. Go big and bold with Dior Blackout or Fiberwig. Remember, you are making your eyes the focal point which means you must downplay everything else. Compliment your smoldering eyes with a sheer blush or bronzer and pale or neutral lips. In fact, go neutral with a soft (not goopy) Wallet gloss on top. Enjoy, my friends. There aren’t many occasions where we actually get an excuse to go all out!
