October Product Reviews
Skinceuticals Clarifying Cleanser
This is a nice, gentle exfoliator, best for problematic skin types. I found it to be easy on my sensitive skin, with smooth rounded microbeads to slough off dead skin. It contains salicylic acid (good for acne) and glycolic and mandelic acids (to help unclog pores). You really can’t go wrong with the Skinceuticals line. However, I do prefer a heavier exfoliator once a week. I give this a B.
Keune Defrizz Shampoo and Conditioner
I am forever in search of the best in hair care products. And this line rocks! It’s European and really hard to find. However, I am fortunate to be right down the street from a salon that carries it. Recently, I found it cheaper online (click on link). The consistency is watery and makes you think that it’s not going to do the trick. But hello, it’s the best smoothing/defrizzing shampoo and conditioner out there. Completely takes the “puff” out of my hair. Definitely an A!
Mario Badescu Henna & Seamollient Shampoo
A really nice shampoo that doesn’t require a ton of product for a really great lather. It smells nice - lemongrass - and rinses easily. It doesn’t leave my hair dry, which many shampoos tend to do. It claims to add shine, but I can’t say I noticed any additional shine to my hair. This gets a B.
Chantecaille Papillon Luminous Bronzer
Aside from being one of the most beautiful cosmetic products I own, this adds the nicest touch of bronze shimmer to cheeks. Applied lightly, it’s subtle … but you can keep adding for a more dramatic look if desired. I cannot wear blush (due to rosacea) so I use bronzers instead, year round. This bronzer takes the cake - an A.
Xela Red Currant Home Diffuser
With all the hype, I was prepared to be blown away. And to my dismay, I was not. I am a loyal fan of another brand (in which I will write my review for next month) and I was told Xela’s were superior. Not even close. Yes, this smells delightful. I cannot get enough of the red currant scent. However, it barely gets past five feet of space. I expected this to permeate throughout rooms, not just across my kitchen island. Unfortunately, I have to give this a D.
become Color Therapy Masks
Wow! Not only was this the coolest in packaging and application, but honestly was one of the most relaxing (and most fun!) masks I have ever used. It comes in three colors and accomplishes three tasks, brilliantly. I had the opportunity to interview the founder, Stephanie White. She is an impressive lady and I can’t wait to write about it. You will love these masks! None other than an A.
become Eye Cream
An eye cream, like any good skin care product, has to contain the right ingredients and be the right consistency. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Honestly, there aren’t too many eye creams out there that I enjoy applying as much as this one. It’s thin, but oh so moisturizing. It contains Matrixyl 3000 (pro-collagen and pro-elastin peptide), Hematite Extract (restores tone and elasticity), and Pearl Extract (promotes rest and relaxation). It absolutely depuffs in the morning, too. And the price is fantastic. It contains Centipeda Cuninghamii (Australian Daisy) Extract, which actually led me to my conversations with Stephanie (more to come on this ingredient.…). This was a good month … an A.
Cole Haan Ilysa Short Cuff Boot
Of course these are getting an A. Like I said, it was a good month. Boots are hot … but these are especially hot because of the 4″ stacked heel with mini platform. I love the braided detail, too. Now that I can get my ankles back in shoes, I wear these more than anything. With skirts, dresses, jeans or slacks - they are the perfect finishing detail!
